SysAdmin by day (and night!), aficionado of extra hot chilli peppers and casual Airsoft Skirmisher

My name is Gareth Llewellyn and I'm a Senior Operations Engineer at DataSift.com managing our core server estate, working with software such as nginx, haproxy, Varnish, mySQL, Redis, zeroMQ, Chef etc; networking hardware including BIG IP F5 load balancers, Cisco 3750 switches, 5510 firewalls, HP SANs as well as a variety of server hardware to handle the workload of filtering, augmenting, delivering and storing multiple simultaneous real time data streams such as the Twitter firehose.

In my spare time I like to write Android applications, dabble with embedded C++ and maintain some LAMP applications.

To try and maintain some semblance of an active lifestyle I also participate in Airsoft. Which is a sport in which participants shoot round non-metallic pellets fired from replica firearms.

Gameplay varies in style and composition but often range from short-term skirmishes on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve objectives set in each game.

Call me paranoid but there's something about putting enough information to socially engineer my friends, family and banking instituions all in one place that makes me nervous.

So far everyone tells me 'Oh but I put fake information in there' or 'I have my privacy settings right' even if you put a fake birth date in your profile (which is against the TOS) there is nothing stopping a friend posting on your 'wall' about your birthday, or mentioning a school reunion etc.

It's not paranoia if they really are after you....
